Veterinarian
Dr. Kerri Blackburn, DVM, is a passionate veterinarian dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of pets. Originally from the scenic Pacific Northwest/Midwest, she now calls the Carolinas home, where she appreciates the perfect blend of mountains and coastline while raising her family.
As the Medical Director of Rivers Edge Animal Hospital, Dr. Blackburn is particularly interested in ultrasound technology, recognizing its vital role in modern veterinary medicine. She enjoys using ultrasound to provide accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans for her patients, and she is always open to collaborating with local colleagues to share knowledge and improve patient care.
Her comprehensive expertise extends to general wellness care, internal medicine, surgery, nutrition and oncology. Dr. Blackburn believes that effective communication with pet owners is key to maintaining their furry family members' health, and she is committed to guiding families through every step of their pets' medical journeys.
Dr. Blackburn earned her undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of South Florida and received her veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 2007. After completing an internship with Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Florida, she has continued to enhance her skills through ongoing education in ultrasound, endoscopy, and advanced veterinary medicine.
Active in the veterinary community, Dr. Blackburn is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA), South Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA), and World Vets. She collaborates with a network of emergency preparedness veterinarians, ensuring her community is equipped to respond to disasters. She also promotes and maintains the hospital's American Animal Hospital Association's(AAHA) accreditation.
Outside of her practice, Dr. Blackburn loves spending time with her husband and two sons, as well as their cats, Stache, Chicken Wing and Parmesan. She enjoys hiking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and practicing yoga, while also exploring her creative passions in painting and lapidary arts/metalwork.

Veterinarian
Dr. Andrea Olson was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but she has been happy to call the Carolinas home for the past ten years. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2007 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. After graduation, Dr. Olson spent three years working at a busy small animal hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, before returning to the east coast with her family.
With a professional interest in dentistry and oral surgery, Dr. Olson is committed to providing the highest quality care to her patients. She finds great fulfillment in helping pets maintain their health and well-being, and she enjoys the opportunity to build lasting relationships with both her furry patients and their families.
Outside of her veterinary practice, Dr. Olson enjoys spending time with her husband and their three young children. Their family is completed by a lovable yellow Lab and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Dr. Olson is also passionate about giving back to the community and volunteers with Make-A-Wish, where she helps bring joy to children facing critical illnesses.

Veterinarian
Dr. Amy Tanis, originally from New Jersey, now happily calls sunny South Carolina home. She completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University and graduated from the University of Florida's veterinary program in 2007, alongside Dr. Blackburn. After an equine internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center, Dr. Tanis discovered her passion for small animal medicine and spent seven years in a mixed animal practice in Maryland before moving to the Carolinas.
Dr. Tanis is dedicated to building strong relationships with clients and their pets, believing that understanding their unique bond is crucial to effective veterinary care. She emphasizes tailored medical plans for each animal and values clear communication. Her special interests include nutrition, dermatology, and integrative veterinary medicine.
At home, Dr. Tanis enjoys quality time with her husband, five children, and their two black labs, Sojo and Summer. Her family loves sports and is often on the go for soccer games, wrestling matches, and dance competitions. In her free time, she enjoys running, exploring nature, and learning more about nutrition and health—while also embracing her role as the family’s dedicated “kid taxi driver!”

Dr. Nancy Smith is a dedicated veterinarian with over two decades of experience. Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Dr. Smith grew up as an Army brat, giving her the unique opportunity to live in various locations around the globe. This diverse upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for different cultures and environments, shaping her compassionate approach to veterinary care.
Dr. Smith completed her undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississippi State's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Since then, she has made her mark in different regions of Florida, providing exceptional care for pets and their owners. Recently, she has returned to the Carolinas, where she is excited to continue her work and contribute to the local community.
With a passion for enhancing the health and well-being of animals, Dr. Smith focuses on routine vaccinations and wellness care, ensuring that pets lead happy, healthy lives. Her interests in dermatology and internal medicine allow her to address a wide range of medical concerns.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Smith enjoys exploring the great outdoors and is eager to discover the state parks in her new home. She finds joy in riding her bicycle and indulging in treasure hunts at flea markets and antique stores. When she's ready to unwind, she loves curling up with a gripping murder mystery book, engaging her analytical mind in solving intriguing plots.
At home, Dr. Smith shares her life with a lively assortment of pets: one scruffy mutt dog, five cats of varying personalities, a spirited turtle, and the world’s fastest mouse. This dynamic household reflects her love for animals and her commitment to providing them with a nurturing environment.
